Best iPhone 5 apps to download first and make the most
of the bigger screen and all the new Apple smartphone features
So you've grabbed yourself an iPhone 5... but what do
you do next? Probably download some apps, if you know what's good for you.
Whether you're an iPhone novice, or a seasoned veteran hunting for something
new - we've picked some App Store essentials you really ought to download.
1. VSCO Cam
Targeting the filter loving, snap sharing market, VSCO Cam
is more feature packed than rival Instagram. With a myriad of filters and
presets, control over white balance and exposure along with the ability to
import and export at full resolution, this app definitely looks to be a winner.
While the app is free, to access all the filters and presets you will have to
cough up some cash through in-app purchase.
2. Radio Alan
Aha! Alan’s back, this time slotting in quips between your
own tunes. Simply select the playlist you want, sit back and you’ve got your
own radio station, presented by the one and only Alan Partridge. Alan will also
judge your music taste and tell you how can improve it. Packing a few Seal
tracks in your library? Partridge can tell and before they play you’ll hear the
classic line – ‘Keep your clubs away from its young, it’s Seal.’
3. Rise
With it soft glows, spreading colors and gesture based
interface, Rise is about as soothing as you’re going get with an app intent on
waking you up from a peaceful sleep. If you’re not a fan of waking up to a
harsh beep, Rise lets you set some of your tunes instead and you can use it as
a bedside clock thanks to the night-mode.
4. Spylce
Splyce is a slick looking music player, all colorful and
bright, yet packed with some interesting features too. Selecting similar songs,
through BPM and other visual clues, the app will create playlists and even mix
the tracks together for you – like a real life DJ in your pocket. There’s even
more integration if you happen to have Philip’s Hue light system, as the app
can control the intensity of the glow and match it to your tunes.
5. The Whole Pantry
If you think yourself a bit of a whiz in the kitchen, yet
need to improve your repertoire when it comes to dishes aimed at vegetarians,
The Whole Pantry has you covered. Packing 40 vegey, vegan and even gulten free
recipes, along with 11 guides to improving your health and welfare, you’ll be
